Summary
Chronopath is free and has no accounts. It shows ads, which Premium removes, and it sells gems and Premium through Apple or Google. Three things can leave your device: a record of each finished run, sent to the game's leaderboard while the Ranking setting is on; your gem balance and purchases, once you have opened the SHOP; and, after your first five runs, what Google's ad service collects to show ads. The leaderboard and your purchases are never linked together, and neither is linked to you by name.
Data stored on your device
The game keeps a few things on your device so it can work: your settings (sound, haptics, screen shake, reduced motion, ranking, light or dark theme), your best score, your best streak, your longest run, how many runs you have played, the run in progress so it can resume after you leave the app, whether you have seen the first-run hints and the tutorial, which tip comes next, your chosen art style, and, on slower phones, whether the lighter picture is needed (with the browser version it was measured on). It also keeps your progress: today's goals and how far you are with them, the medals you have earned, totals across your runs, your recent scores and the day's benchmark score, your rank, the looks you have unlocked and wear, and today's time capsule. For the leaderboard it keeps your best score on each board, the last leaderboard you looked at (so it can be shown offline), up to five finished runs waiting to be sent while you are offline, your device's random leaderboard code and your tag. Once you open the SHOP or claim a medal it also keeps a separate random wallet code, your gem balance and what you own, gems waiting to be credited, which medals you have claimed, and your chosen app icon; and it counts retries to pace full-screen ads. The wallet code is also kept in the phone's own app storage and, so that your gems, icons and Premium come back if you delete and reinstall the app, in the iPhone's Keychain or in Block Store on Android (part of Google Play services). That one copy of the code stays on your phone after you delete the app, and it can travel in your phone's own encrypted backup, which we can't read. Everything else listed here is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data, and none of it leaves your device except as described below. To have the wallet erased, ask us (see Your rights). A run card you share goes only where you send it.
Leaderboard (optional, on by default)
When a run ends and Ranking is on, the app sends the run to our leaderboard server: its seed (the number that sets up the level), the list of taps you made, which board it is for (all-time or daily) and, for a daily run, the date. With it goes a random code the app made on your device the first time it sent a run. The code is not your device's hardware or advertising identifier and has nothing to do with your name, any account or any other app. The server replays your taps with the game's own rules to confirm the score. It keeps a one-way fingerprint of your code (not the code itself), a tag made from that fingerprint (two words and two numbers, such as NEON-WARDEN-07), and, for each board, your best score with its number of turns, the board and date, the seed, the time it arrived and a one-way fingerprint of the run so the same run is never counted twice. The taps themselves are not kept. The leaderboard shows the top players and the players around you by their tags, with their scores and turns.
The server never receives your name, an account, your location or your contacts. Your tag is the same each time you play on this device, so your entries can be linked to each other, but not to you: we cannot tell who is behind a tag. If you would like your entries removed, email us your tag (shown on the leaderboard screen as "YOU ARE …"). Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes the code, and the app makes a new one, with a new tag, next time.
Like any internet service, the server sees your device's IP address when the app connects. It is used only for a moment, to limit how often runs can be sent, and is never stored or logged by us.
- Where: Cloudflare Workers and Cloudflare D1, run by Cloudflare, Inc. on our behalf on its global network.
- How long: daily boards are deleted after 30 days. All-time boards are kept for the current season; a new season starts whenever the game's rules change. Run fingerprints are deleted after 90 days.
- Turning it off: set Ranking to OFF in SETTINGS on the pause or end-of-run screen. Nothing is sent after that, and runs waiting to be sent are discarded.
Gems and purchases
The first time you open the SHOP or claim a medal, the app makes a random wallet code. It is separate from the leaderboard code, and the two are never sent together.
- Our server (Cloudflare, as above) keeps your gem balance, what you own, and a log of each change, under a fingerprint of the wallet code. Requests carry the code itself; we store only the fingerprint. These records are kept while the game runs, because your gems and purchases depend on them.
- Purchases are made through Apple or Google, which handle your payment and account; we never see your card or store account details. RevenueCat, Inc. processes your purchase history for us under the wallet code, so that purchases can be confirmed and restored.
- Gems for play: when you earn gems from a goal or a rank, or tap a medal to claim its gems, the app tells our server which one earned them.
Advertising
The first five runs show no ads, and until then the app does not contact Google's ad service. Premium removes all ads. After that, ads are provided by Google AdMob: a banner on the start screen and in SETTINGS; a full-screen ad between some runs; and videos you choose to watch in the SHOP for gems.
- What Google's service collects: your device's IP address, which may estimate your general location; your advertising identifier and other device identifiers (on iPhone only if you allow tracking; on Android the advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in the phone's settings, and the app set ID); the ads you see and how you interact with them and the app, such as taps and video views; and performance and crash information. It is used for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention, and is encrypted in transit. Google and its advertising partners handle this data under their own terms: see how Google uses information from apps.
- Your choices:
- In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, you are asked for consent first, and you can refuse. Change your mind at any time in SETTINGS under PRIVACY CHOICES.
- On iPhone, Apple's prompt asks whether the app may track you. You can change this in the phone's Settings under Privacy & Security, Tracking.
- Refusing does not change the game. You may still see ads, which are less personalised.
- Reward videos: a one-way fingerprint of your wallet code goes with the video and comes back to our server in a message signed by Google, so that your gems reach the right wallet. Google never receives the wallet code itself.
- We do not give Google your leaderboard code, your tag or your scores.
Data we collect
The leaderboard records described above, under a random code's fingerprint and its tag; and the wallet records described above, under a separate fingerprint. We do not ask for your name or contact details, and we do not use these records for anything but running the leaderboard, your gems and your purchases.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR), you can ask us for a copy of your data, and to correct or delete it, and you can object to how we use it. We rely on your consent for personalised ads and for storing or reading information on your device for ads, which you can withdraw at any time; on providing what you asked for, for purchases and gems; and on our legitimate interest in running a fair leaderboard. Because we only hold fingerprints, we may need your tag or wallet details to find your records. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Google, RevenueCat and Cloudflare may process data outside the UK, under their own transfer safeguards.
Third parties
The app includes Google's Mobile Ads and User Messaging Platform SDKs (advertising and consent) and RevenueCat's SDK (purchases), as described above. It is built with Capacitor, an open-source wrapper that does not collect data. The game's server is hosted by Cloudflare as described above. There is no separate analytics service.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and ads are limited to content suitable for teens and older. The leaderboard never shows names or anything a player typed, only made-up tags, scores and turns.
Changes
If a future version changes what is sent, this policy and the store listings will be updated first.
